The Greenhouse Café is located in the wonderful village of Solvang, California, known as “The Danish Capital of America.” Housed in an actual greenhouse building, in the middle of Solvang, the Café offers a great open air atmosphere with fresh food and local wine and beer. (see our menu). Owners Aaron and Elsemarie Petersen (a native of Denmark) have owned and operated the Greenhouse since 1995. Having grown up in Solvang, Aaron Petersen attended college and practiced law in Washington state, before returning to Solvang with his wife from Denmark. The Petersen’s operate the Café and in their spare time raise their four children, some of who are now old enough to work in the café. The Petersen extended family also owns and operates the Inn at Petersen Village, and Mortensen’s Danish Bakery, all within door steps of the Café. The philosophy of the Café is simple: serve good food in a relaxed setting and employ only local high school and college kids who know how to smile. In July 2010, Aaron and Elsemarie purchased Ingeborg’s Danish Chocolates from Bent and Inge Lisa Pedersen who owned and operated Ingeborgs for over 35 years. Ingaborgs manufactures its own chocolates, with its factory right on the premises. Elsemarie has taken over the day to day management of Ingeborgs, to ensure all Danish traditions are followed. Come visit the Greenhouse Cafe (a nordic bistro) for some of its Danish treats or American favorites, enjoy imported beer and wine along with locally brewed favorites, and locally roasted coffee from El Rancho Market. Also visit Ingaborgs Chocolates for all your imported candy and home made chocolates. Ingeborgs also serves McConnells famous ice cream, (made in Santa Barbara for over 65 years,) offering sodas, floats, malts, and banana splits at its ice cream bar.
